Palm Desert

Built in 1956, this architectural home in Palm Desert, CA, suffered from an uninspired 1980s renovation. Vaulted ceilings with sand-blasted exposed beams and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows showcasing mountain views were signature features, along with the original cinderblock fireplace, which was discovered hiding behind layers of drywall.

After stripping the home to its bones, organic materials were selected—black slate for the living and dining areas, eco-friendly bamboo for the kitchen, and natural seagrass for the bedrooms—all complemented by a color palette of rich desert tones. Stainless steel appliances and a Brazilian river rock granite bar completed the kitchen.
